Mail-in Measurments
The mail-in service does NOT accept samples with any of the following hazards:
- Biohazards (any class) (definition)
- Human-Origin (definition)
- Radioactive (definition)
- Regulated Soils (definition)
- Explosives or Unstable Materials (definition)
The mail-in service does NOT accept any sample material with more than one of the following hazards:
- Flammable
- Corrosive
- Oxidizer
Samples with the following hazards are allowed for the mail-in service:
- Toxic (Please Specify For Handling Safety: toxicity definitions available at above link)
- Carcinogen (Please also use this classification for teratogenic and mutagenic materials)
- Flammable
- Corrosive
- Oxidizing
(Note: these materials must be segregated for storage; we can not accept materials that fall into more than one of these categories.
- Nano (Since all 11-BM materials must be securely sealed in the supplied Kapton tubes, they are considered as encapsulated in a solid matrix.)
RCRA regulated metals (the heavy metals Ag, As, Ba, Cd, Cr, Hg, Pb and Se) can be accepted, but samples containing them must be identified.
Additionally, all registered samples shipped to the APS must qualify for small quantity exceptions under U.S. Dept. of Transportation (DOT) regulations (CFR Title 49 § 173.4).
Please take special care to ensure that samples potentially hazardous to beamline staff (Nano, Toxic, Carcinogenic, Flammable, etc) are securely contained and permanently sealed in the Kapton tubes.
Inquire about special sized sample mounting bases and double nesting Kapton tubes if your permissible samples are particularly hazardous or air sensitive.
On-Site Experiments
Please complete your ESAF ~ 2 weeks prior to the start of the experiment.
