Minutes and Documents from the High Energy Materials Diffraction Beamline Advisory Group

The High Energy Materials Diffraction BAG advises the MC group leader and APS management on instruments and infrastructure related to high energy x-ray diffraction microscopy (HEDM) and high-energy wide-angle and small-angle diffraction of materials and biomaterials, work primarily done at 1-ID. The membership of this committee can be found on the appropriate XSD web page.

July -- August 2009: Phase-II 1-ID upgrade

The HEMD BAG was sent on July 23 (view e-mail) a short outline/justification (view here) for the proposed Phase-II upgrade of 1-ID.

The same proposal was also sent to the Structural Characterization BAG on Aug 5 (view e-mail). The chair stated in response "I am certainly in favor of the proposed construction of a new hucth so that each of the major programs at 1-ID can have dedicated space and keep their setups in place and optimized. There will clearly be benefits for all of the high energy programs at 1-ID. Repeatedly tearing down setups and rebuilding them is a waste of time and leads to less than optimal experiments."

The HEMD BAG discussed this proposal privately and responded with a three page memo (view memo) in support of the upgrade that was sent by e-mail on Aug 7 to APS management (view e-mail).
